How Do I Clean, Disinfect, and Sanitize My iPhone from Coronavirus?
I don’t have to tell you how important your iPhone is to you. Smart phones are our lifelines to the modern world. In fact, there’s a good chance you are reading this on your iPhone right now.
Now, more than ever, keeping our phones clean and germ free has become a priority. After all, many studies have been done to tell us how our phones can become contaminated with germs. Whether we are talking about bacteria or viruses, including Coronavirus, the solution is the same. According to the BBC, cleaning the surface of your phone with soap and water will make your phone as clean as an operating room table (don’t believe us, click HERE to see the proof).
Besides soap and water, you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol to remove disease causing microorganisms from your phone.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: Shut down the power and NEVER clean your device while it is plugged into a charger!
Step 1: Wet a clean cloth with water. Microfiber cloths are great choices because of their lint free properties. However, a soft towel that will not scratch your phone’s surface is fine.
Step 2: Place a drop of hand soap onto the towel. Less is more here. You do not want to create a sticky mess on your phone.
Step 3: Work the soap into the cloth and tightly wring out. You want the towel to be damp, not dripping with soap and water.
Step 4: Gently slide the cloth over the surface of your phone. Be careful to avoid openings, such as charging ports and seams where moisture can slip through. Even if your phone is water resistant, if a seal is compromised, water can get in. Always use the least amount of moisture possible to clean anything electronic.
Step 5: Dry your phone with a clean, dry towel. For best results, dry in a single direction.
According to the BBC, cleaning in this manner will have your phone as clean as an operating table! Keep in mind, that as soon as you touch your phone, you introduce a new round of contaminates.
Cleaning your phone on a regular schedule is your best defense against germs.
Bonus Tip: Instead of using soap and water, iPhones, and most electronics, can safely be cleaned and sanitized using alcohol wipes. Substitute an alcohol wipe and follow the same procedure outlined above.
Always test in an inconspicuous spot and check the manufacture’s cleaning guidelines before attempting to clean any electronic device.
Extra Bonus Tip: Essential oil manufacturer, doTERRA, makes a sanitizer spray that is safe for spraying on most electronic devices, it’s called On Guard Sanitizing Mist. Spray the antiseptic onto a cloth to clean your iPhone using the above steps.
